  • What is gum disease or periodontal disease?

Periodontal disease is also known as gum disease or periodontitis. There are various stages of gum disease, and the two most common forms are gingivitis and adult periodontitis. Gingivitis is an inflammation or infection of the gums (gingiva) that is an early stage of periodontal disease. When left untreated, gingivitis may progress to periodontal disease, which can progress to the loss of teeth. Only a professional –a dentist or periodontist –can diagnose gum disease, which often is painless. Research shows that periodontal disease may also be linked to heart, lung, kidney and respiratory disease, and to premature birth.

    How does it progress?

A combination of bacteria and acids in the mouth form a sticky deposit called dental plaque that clings to the teeth. Plaque that is not removed from the teeth hardens into calculus and tartar, which aggravate the gums. Pockets (filled with plaque) form between the teeth and gums –causing the irritated gums to detach or pull away from the teeth. At this point, the infection has advanced below the gum line and it can then destroy the soft tissue, bone and ligaments that support the teeth. The teeth may become abscessed and loose, and even fall out. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.

    What are the symptoms?

The symptoms of gingivitis are inflamed, swollen gums that bleed easily when they are brushed or flossed. Many times bad breath is present and there are times when there is little or no pain in the early stages. The late stage symptoms of periodontitis are loose teeth, spaces in between the teeth, pain upon chewing, pus around the teeth or gums, or abscessed teeth. Receding gums may be a symptom and the tooth may appear to look longer because the gums are withdrawing. Also the teeth may be sensitive to cold, hot and sugars.

  • What is Living Juice?

The concept of living juice was first introduced by Dr. Norman Walker (1874-1983). Walker declared that the enzymes in fruit and vegetables die at temperatures which exceed 50 degrees Celsius. Walker explained that any juice extractor that used high-speed blade or centrifuge created friction heat leading to the destruction of enzymes. Nutritionists advise plenty of fresh, raw fruit and vegetables as essential to well-being but we only obtain the maximum benefits from them when the goodness is released from the fibre. Juicing is an effective method, a highly concentrated nutrient drink. For optimum benefits the process must extract the goodness without destroying vital elements through heat. Living juice extracted at a low temperature holds up to 60% more nutrients - minerals, vitamins and living enzymes - for a nutritionally superior juice.

    Non-Living Juice
Pre-packed juices lose much of their goodness in the bottling process, and the mass production methods of the fruit and vegetables can leave residual contaminants. Juicing machines will allow you to take control of the quality of the produce, but extraction methods can still destory vital nutrients, vitamins and living enzymes. Essential enzymes in fruit and vegetable juice die at temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius. Any juicer extractor using a high-speed blade or centrifuge creates friction heat and destroys the vital nutrients. Only Living Juice extractors like the Oscar Vital Max and Greenpower Hippocrates create the superior Living Juice.

    Superior Juice
Maximise the benefits of juicing and give you body optimum goodness. Unlock the key elements from the fibre in fruit and vegetable without destorying vital nutrients and living enzymes. The unique juice extracting methods which achieve Living Juice, are available through Vitality 4 Life’s Products. Living Juice - for optimum health and vitality, naturally achieve healthy living, fight aliments and provide a powerful energy source for detoxing.

  • Vitality 4 Life and the development of Vibration machines

I have maintained a keen interest in the development of this technology. In 2002 I purchased one of the first Power Plate machines from Holland and have used it constantly. In 2002 Vitality 4 Life commissioned Mr Kim, a Korean engineer formerly employed by Daewoo to do a feasibility study on the manufacturing of vibration exercise platforms.

Our desire was to make this ground breaking technology affordable to most people. Our requirements were that the machines must be of the finest quality and affordable to households. After 20 years in the vitality business we know that the key ingredient is that the individual must get into a daily practice.

WBV therapy has been embraced by gyms, personal training centres, beauty salons, chiropractors, day spa's and weight loss centres.

Studies have shown that exercise on these vibration platforms can help to lose weight, reduce back pain, increase balance and stability, recover from injury, tone up, increase flexibility and gain strength.

  • What is whole body vibration therapy?

Whole Body Vibration (WBV) may appear to be a new therapy but it was actually developed by Russian scientists to help overcome degeneration of muscle mass of cosmonauts who had spent long periods of time in zero gravity.

I was first introduced to vibration exercise therapy 25 years ago by Dr Ian Reinbott. Dr Reinbott, a leading Australian chiropractor, imported a set of early machines from Russia and used them with great success in his clinics in Australia.

These early vibration machines cost over $80 000 and could only be afforded by clinics. What I have witnessed both in my personal life and those around me is that once someone has reached the age of 35 they make an error (in my opinion) of returning to conventional weight lifting equipment / gym equipment in an attempt to retain their vitality.

But by the age of 35, most people have experienced some type of injury or dysfunction. We have all seen the middle aged jogger trundling down the street in the early morning in an attempt to get fit. Next time observe them closely. Often their gait is labored which is caused by the stress of having a body which is out of alignment.

By returning to the gym, they proceed to strengthen this dysfunction. On the other hand, with whole body vibration therapy they proceed to return the body to skeletal alignment.

  • Water Glossary - Water Terms

Adsorption: Adsorption is a chemical process in which an ionic filter media is use. The filter attracts water contaminants and encourages these contaminants to break their bond with the water molecules.

Alachlor: Alachlor is an odorless, colorless solid, used as an herbicide for grasses and other broadleaf plants. Ingestion of Alachlor in drinking water can increase risk of cancer and cause liver and/or kidney damage.

Atrizine: Atrizine is a white, solid crystalline compound. It is currently the most widely used pesticide chemical. Ingestion of Atrizine can cause cancer and damage the cardiovascular system.

Benzene: Benzene is a colorless, aromatic liquid that is widely used in producing rubber, plastics, and other synthetic materials. Ingestion of Benzene can lead to cancer and/or chromosome aberrations.

Chlorine: Chlorine is a yellowish, poisonous gas with a pungent odor, widely used as a disinfectant in drinking water. Ingestion of chlorine can lead to bladder, rectal, and/or breast cancer.

Cryptosporidium: Cryptosporidium is a protozoan microbiological contaminant that is resistant to the disinfecting capabilities of chlorine. Ingestion of cryptosporidium generally leads to gastrointestinal illness.

Cysts: Cysts are chlorine-resistant microorganisms. When ingested in drinking water, they most commonly cause gastrointestinal illness, accompanied by vomiting, diarrhea, and cramps.

Lead: Lead is a metal contaminant that occurs in drinking water as a result of the corrosion of pipes in a plumbing system. Ingestion of lead can cause severe developmental delays in children and kidney failure and/or stroke in adults.

Lindane: Lindane is a white, crystalline powder that is commonly used as a chemical in pesticides. Ingestion of Lindane can result in liver and/or kidney damage.

MCLG: MCLG stands for the maximum contaminant level goal, as set by the EPA. The MCLG is the amount of a particular contaminant that may be present in drinking water before any adverse health effects will occur.

MTBE: MTBE is a chemical compound, typically used as a fuel oxygenate or additive to unleaded gasoline. The specific health risks of MTBE are currently pending EPA investigation.

pH: pH is the measure of the general acidity or alkalinity of a substance. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, with a pH of 7 being neutral.
